Basic Gun Safety

The necessity of knowing how to use a firearm safely can’t be understated in this day and age. The number of gun-related accidents is too high, which is why we’re going to go over some basic gun safety information, whether you’re using it or storing it away.

How To Hold Your Firearm

The number one rule when handling a gun is to make sure it is pointed in a safe direction at all times. This means that you should typically point it at the ground. If you tip it upward for any reason, make sure it’s never pointed at another person. Since the firearm should always be unloaded unless it’s in use, some people think that this doesn’t matter, but that’s how accidents happen. However, before you pick up the weapon, it’s a good idea to get into the habit of checking to ensure that it’s empty.

As a final level of protection, it’s also best to never put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to fire it. While this may seem simple, most guns are designed for your finger to naturally fall into place there, so it’s something you’ll have to keep at the front of your mind when handling a gun.

How To Use Your Firearm

Knowing how to hold your gun is only half the battle. You also need to know how to use it effectively. Basic gun safety training is a must when you own a firearm. Enough though you can learn a lot from videos on the internet, they’re not the most reliable source of information. That’s why it’s better to get trained by a seasoned professional. Whether you pay for classes or have a skilled family member or friend show you the ropes, learning how to shoot your gun is essential to keeping yourself and others safe.

How To Store Your Firearm

Of course, basic gun safety doesn’t stop when you put the gun away. You need to secure it in a place that no one else can get to. Any gun safe with a strong lock will do, but if you want to be able to reach your firearm in the case of an emergency, you’ll need something a little more accessible.

This is the reason why we went into business over ten years ago. Our Solo-Vault™ safes are perfect for keeping your gun out of the hands of a child or a troublesome home intruder while still allowing you to grab it at a moment’s notice, ensuring the maximum level of safety possible.
